1,2-Dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-arachidonoyl (N-arachidonoyl-DPPE) is a type of N-acylphosphatidylethanolamines (NAPEs) which are important intermediates in the endocannabinoid biosynthesis pathway, producing anandamide through hydrolysis by NAPE-specific phospholiase D. NAPEs are also produced in the small intestine, travel through the circulatory system to the brain, accumulate in the hypothalamus, and suppress appetite. Injected NAPEs cause a reduction in food intake and weight loss in rats.
